About the BlogChoreography is a process. One essential portion of that process is selecting the soundscape of your piece. Choosing the perfect accompaniment for a dance is no simple feat. Will there be lyrics? Text? Silence? Ambiance? Will the song be well know? Unknown? In the ever growing and diverse world of dance, it seems that the choices may be endless. Yet, the perfect soundtrack is often challenging to find.
The purpose of this blog is to be a resource to dancers, teachers, and choreographers in finding great music for choreography, teaching, etc. While I can't possibly find the perfect music for every idea and concept, I do hope this blog will help you to begin your music search, expand your music library, and possibly even find the music for your next piece. I have a passion for finding and collecting new music for dance. I add new music to the blog regularly and give a short explanation of how I might envision using the song. I have a diverse dance background, so I hope to bring a little of everything to the list: many styles, artists, influences and time periods. Not finding what you're looking for? Feel free to comment about your choreography concepts. If I have any ideas, your concept may be featured my next post! |
Who Am I? |
I'm Haley. I've danced since I was a young child and have been choreographing since the age of 5. (My first piece happened to be to the song from Disneyland's Tikki Room and was featured in my elementary school talent show.) Since then, I've studied many styles including modern, contemporary, classical ballet, tap, jazz, West African, hip hop, and ballroom. I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in 2013, where I also studied music elements and dance accompaniment. I've been teaching in private dance studios for 11 years and also taught dance in a public middle school for 4 years. Over the years, I've taught students of all ages in many different styles. I have choreographed for a wide array of events such as university concerts, musical theater productions, wedding receptions, high school dance company productions, dance competitions, and studio recitals. I also love to guide improvisation and teach students to put their own ideas into choreography. Simply put, dance and music are integral parts of my life.
